The United States will ban the import of Chinese seafood from North Korean laborers!

2017-10-11

The situation on the Korean peninsula is surging, and North Korea’s successive tests of ballistic missiles have caused the international community to further cut off North Korean foreign exchange earnings.

The Associated Press survey found that some of the seafood factories in Hunchun had hired North Korean workers, and the products of the relevant factories were eventually shipped to the United States for sale, which caused Americans to inadvertently finance North Korea’s foreign exchange income when purchasing seafood imported from China.

The US Customs Department announced on Thursday (5th) that it would ban the import of Chinese seafood handled by all North Korean workers.

In response to the report of the Associated Press on Wednesday (4th), in order to avoid the income of North Korean workers working in China's factories will fall into the hands of the Pyongyang government, and eventually become the funds of the North Korean nuclear program,

The US Customs and Border Protection Agency stated that it will take all enforcement actions and prohibit the import of goods produced by Chinese factories that employ North Korean workers, while investigating suppliers supplying seafood to the United States.

Smith, a US Republican congressman, revealed that the Labor Department has locked in 12 categories of goods imported by China. He believes that the Ministry of Labor should ban all related goods from being imported into the United States.

In addition, Japanese media quoted sources on Wednesday (4th) as saying that the Dandong municipal government has issued a notice to companies that employ Korean workers. Every time a North Korean worker is hired, a fine of 4,500 yuan will be imposed, and the worker himself will be forced to repatriate.

A spokesman for the National Security Council said that the North Korean government will export labor to other places and use their income to support the Pyongyang government's nuclear program, so the United States will impose sanctions on North Korean foreign workers.

The spokesman said that in view of this, all countries should ban enterprises from hiring North Korean workers to a minimum. Senator Minority Leader Schumer urged Washington to step up pressure on China to crack down on China-DPRK border trade.
